Marian Hesse

Marian Hesse’s abstract photos have been described as ethereal, bold and vibrant. She has been a professional musician for more than 40 years. During the Pandemic, when the music died due to the threat of contagion, she turned to photography and writing as artistic avenues. Her mysterious light-filled images may reflect the galaxy and stars or perhaps the nebulae within our minds.
Her subjects are the very tools that she uses for her musical activities. The abstract images are everyday objects photographed with light and motion. The results are such that reality shifts and possible interpretation becomes multifaceted.
The swirling lights, splashes of color, and reflected sparks create images that can be individually interpreted by each viewer. They can be hung in almost any orientation that the viewer prefers-up can be down and left can become right.
She explores various images created through the camera's movement and lighting. Each composition is finished through editing and emphasizes shadows and reflections. Photoshop is not used in any of the photos and there is no AI.
As a professional musician, the practice of photography often involves her instrument of choice, the horn.
